Hello and Welcome

We are Julian & Jude Baskcomb, owners of the Moulin Lake. We left the Leicestershire countryside for rural Indre-et-Loire in July 2005 and sailed out of Portsmouth for a completely new life in France with our then 6-year-old daughter Saskia.

Guess we were fed up with the grey English weather, the terrible traffic, looking out on the car park at work in the same old town and wondering if that was all there was. Well, on a sunny August day in 2004 some friends, already living in France, showed us this place and we were hooked on a dream.

It was a huge challenge – often funny, often scary - leaving everything behind to renovate and restore back to life the Moulin Lake, the watermill and its three cottages that we had so fallen in love with, as nobody had touched anything here for ten years!

We knew what we wanted to do – open the Moulin Lake for Carp Fishing Holidays in France but also provide quality accommodation and evening meals and create a place with a really special atmosphere and decent facilities where everyone would enjoy their holiday.

We finally opened in summer 2007 and since then, during the passing years, have welcomed hundreds of guests – many now friends – the majority carp fishing on the now beautiful Moulin Lake which we still try to improve every season.

We always look forward to Saturday afternoons and welcoming our new and repeat guests – some have been half a dozen times now!  One regular comment over the years is “it’s all SO much better than in the photos !”  We think so, and hope you do too!
